Federal NDP announces Yukon candidate ahead of Spring election

WHITEHORSE, YT — The federal NDP has selected Katherine McCallum to run for the Yukon’s only parliamentary seat in next month’s federal election, the party announced Wednesday, March 26.

McCallum has spent nearly two decades working in the Yukon’s theatre and arts community.

She has served on the board of the Yukon Arts Centre, and currently teaches theater at Yukon University.

McCallum is also the founder and executive producer of the Whitehorse theatre company, Larrikin Entertainment.

In addition to her work in the arts, McCallum has been a long-time advocate for climate action, and for marginalized groups in the Yukon.

“I am deeply committed to the future of the Yukon. I’m an educator, a community builder, and I am ready to represent Yukoners in our nation’s capital,” McCallum said Wednesday.

“My vision for the Yukon includes a future where everyone has access to quality healthcare, affordable housing, and good education.

“The federal government plays a big role in our territory, and I want to ensure it funds these initiatives in a way that helps Yukoners thrive.”

Canada’s NDP has been steadily increasing its share of the vote in the Yukon since 2008 and feels the Yukon is ready for change.
